Mountain Pine Beetle
Community Economic Diversification Initiative (CEDI)
The Community Economic Diversification Initiative (CEDI) is an important component of the federal government’s Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB) Program. It is directed at assisting Mountain Pine Beetle-affected communities to develop economic alternatives. Delivered by Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD), the CEDI will provide financial contributions toward projects that support innovative opportunities for economic growth, job creation and future sustainability of rural communities in British Columbia threatened by the Mountain Pine Beetle.
The Government of Canada is investing $36.6 million in the Community Economic Diversification Initiative. Over $33 million will be invested directly into communities most affected by the Mountain Pine Beetle. The remainder will be used to ensure the initiative is effectively promoted and managed, and that taxpayers receive good value for their money.
Western Economic Diversification Canada is working in partnership with 20 Community Futures Development Corporations in BC, who are available to provide information about the initiative and to answer any questions you may have about the application process. They will also provide coaching and mentoring to those organizations that require assistance in completing their Expression of Interest.
