Community Futures British Columbia is pleased to announce the release of the fourth in a series of videos documenting the support and assistance that Community Futures has provided to businesses, Indigenous communities and not for profit organizations that were impacted by the 2017 wildfires in British Columbia, the worst in the province’s history.

Among the most impacted were the First Nations. Scattered in small, remote communities, they watched as the fires consumed the surrounding land, destroying not just their economic livelihood, but also their very way of life for years, if not generations to come.

This video, First Nations Outreach, focuses on the work undertaken by the Community Futures Development Corporation of Central Interior First Nations (CIFN).

The BC Wildfire Business Transition Project is a regional initiative between seven Community Futures organizations working together with Community Futures British Columbia. The initiative started in October 2017 with an initial project investment of $340,000 from Northern Development Initiative Trust and the Cariboo Chilcotin Beetle Action Coalition to hire a team of Business Ambassadors in the regions served by Community Futures Cariboo Chilcotin, North Cariboo and Sun Country.

That initial investment helped leverage a total of $1.84 million from Western Economic Diversification, allowing Community Futures to extend the Business Ambassador program, develop targeted training programs, and expand the project to include Community Futures of the Central Interior First Nations, Nadina, 16-37 and parts of Thompson Country.
