Consulting rebate program expanded to include more businesses

October 1, 2018

ASHCROFT, QUESNEL, and WILLIAMS LAKE, BC – Thanks to a partnership between Community Futures and Northern Development Initiative Trust, small and medium sized businesses in the Cariboo-Chilcotin, North Cariboo and Sun Country regions now have easier access to professional consulting services to help strengthen their business.

Recognizing the challenges that the region is facing in the wake of the 2017 wildfires, Northern Development Initiative Trust has relaxed the terms of its Competitiveness Consulting Rebate program and developed a customized program to encourage more businesses to take advantage of it.

This is a great opportunity for business owners who want to expand, grow or improve their operations.

The new Wildfire Recovery Rebate program provides a rebate of 75 per cent up to a maximum of $15,000 for the cost of hiring a professional consultant or consulting firm to assist business owners in addressing key areas of their business so that they can become more competitive.

The special rebate is designed specifically for businesses engaged in agriculture and ranching, retail, tourism, and hospitality, and is only available to businesses in NDIT's Cariboo-Chilcotin-Lillooet region, or the Central Coast Regional District (see map below). Businesses in the manufacturing and industrial supplies and services sector are eligible for NDIT's standard Competitiveness Consulting Rebate program.

The Wildfire Recovery Rebate is intended to help small and medium sized businesses implement strategies to attract customers, market a business, recruit employees, and improve profitability, and includes such initiatives as:

  • Marketing plans and programs
  • Cash flow and financial management systems
  • Human resource strategies, including employee recruitment and retention
  • Inventory management
  • Process improvement
  • Business coaching

About Northern Development Initiative Trust

Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT) was established in 2005 by the Province of BC with an initial $185 million in funding to help stimulate economic growth and job creation in northern British Columbia. In December 2017, NDIT contributed $200,000 in funding to Community Futures Cariboo Chilcotin, North Cariboo and Sun Country to hire a team of Business Ambassadors to help businesses assess the impact of the wildfires on their operations and access the programs and resources needed to help them grow.
