Tommy's Choice Dog Cookies: A Recipe for Success

CHILLIWACK - Ryder Newhouse is the 16-year-old owner of Tommy's Choice Dog Cookies, based in Chilliwack. A successful experience during “Bring a Student to Work Program” in 2021 led to an invitation to bake dog cookies at a local bakery. Ryder soon began offering his products at Farmers’ Markets before expanding to larger clients including ski resorts, feed stores, gift shops and bakeries.

To meet the growth in demand for his product, Ryder collaborated with the Chilliwack Society for Community Living (CSLC). Ryder provides the cookie dough, CSLC oversees the baking, and Ryder manages the dehydrating and packaging.

How EDP Helped

The business took a significant leap forward through the services of an EDP Business Advisor. The EDP Program provided support for bookkeeping skills training, inventory software and related training, ensuing the business’ financial operations were sound and able to meet growth targets.

What's Next?

Ryder's future plans for the business involve expanding the product line, introducing new recipes, experimenting with cookie sizes, and exploring shipping options.
